Infectious Hepatitis in dogs

Infectious hepatitis in dogs

Canine infectious hepatitis is a viral disease that affects the liver, kidneys, eyes and lungs of dogs.

It is transmitted through contact with the saliva, urine, feces, blood, or nasal secretions of infected dogs. An infected dog's urine can be contagious for up to a year, and the virus can survive in the environment for months.

Symptoms can range from a mild fever to sudden death. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, pale gums, conjunctivitis, cough, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

The disease can progress very quickly and unfortunately, there is no specific cure; However, veterinarians will try to relieve symptoms, and sometimes dogs can survive with intensive supportive care.
